InteliQuest Monsoon Tracker III

The southwest monsoon has progressed into additional regions, including parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, and the North Arabian Sea. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), conditions are favorable for the monsoon to advance further into more areas of Chhattisgarh and Telangana within the next 24 hours. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation has been identified over Northeast Assam and nearby regions.

West Bengal and Sikkim

  1. The IMD has issued a Red Alert in West Bengal and Sikkim due to the forecast of isolated extremely heavy rainfall on June 12th and 13th, 2024.
  2. Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during the next 7 days.
  3. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, including staying indoors, avoiding low-lying areas prone to flooding, and following updates from local authorities and weather advisories.

Maharashtra

  1. The IMD has issued a very heavy rainfall warning for several parts of Maharashtra, including South and Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, South Madhya Maharashtra, and Konkan. Heavy rains have led to significant disruptions, particularly in Mumbai, where officials report flooding and traffic disruptions.
  2. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has warned of a high tide of 3.32 meters today, exacerbating the flooding situation.
  3. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation over Northeast Assam is likely to result in widespread light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during the next 7 days.

Goa

  1. There is a good chance of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several places in the districts of North and South Goa.
  2.  From June 9 to June 13, squally weather with winds of 35 to 55 kmph with gusts up to 65 kmph is predicted along and off the coast of South Maharashtra and Goa. Fishermen are advised to avoid these areas during this time.
  3. Certain low-lying locations are at high risk of flooding or waterlogging, which may cause traffic disruptions and lengthen travel times. Uprooted trees may also cause damage to the power sector.
  4. Tourists are advised against entering the sea, and people should avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms.

Karnataka

  1. For June 12, 2024, the IMD has issued a “Very Heavy Rain Thunderstorm & Lightning, Squall etc.” warning for interior regions of Karnataka. Shimoga, Gadag, and Devanagere have been issued a red alert with very heavy rainfall. Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka received a yellow alert.
  2. Thunderstorms and sporadic rain are expected to continue today, with substantial rainfall warnings for Uttara Kannada, Dharwad, and Belagavi.
  3. The Arabian Sea is extremely turbulent, with waves rising and winds up to 65 kmph. Fishermen from three coastal districts are urged not to enter the sea, and restrictions continue today.

Telangana

  1. The monsoon is moving into additional regions of Telangana, with moderate to heavy rain or thunderstorms likely in numerous locations.
  2. The Meteorological Center of Hyderabad has predicted that the rainy spell will continue for the next three days, with a yellow alert issued for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday due to the possibility of heavy rainfall.
  3. Heavy rains are expected in 16 districts on Wednesday, including Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, and Rangareddy. The combined districts of Adilabad, Khammam, and Mahabubnagar are expected to receive light rains with gusty winds.
  4. On Thursday, moderate rains are expected in districts like Adilabad, Karimnagar, and Warangal. Recent rains have resulted in tragic incidents, including deaths caused by lightning. Residents are advised to stay safe and take necessary precautions.
  5. Continuous rainfall may result in traffic congestion and waterlogging in Hyderabad, and a yellow alert has been issued for most regions.

Kerala and Lakshadweep

  1. Heavy rain continues in several parts of Kerala due to a cyclonic circulation over Marathwada. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Kasaragod and Kannur, and orange alerts for several other districts.
  2. Squally weather is likely along and off the coast of Kerala and Lakshadweep, with winds of 35–45 kmph and gusts up to 55 kmph. Fishermen are advised to avoid these sea areas between June 11 and June 14.
  3. A High Wave Watch is in effect for Kasaragod, Kannur, and the entire coastline from Kunzhathur to Kotte Kunnu, with wave heights predicted to reach 2.0 to 2.2 meters until June 11. Similar alerts have been issued for other districts and the islands of Minicoy, Agathi, Amini, Androth, and Kavaratti.
