KARNATAKA

 

Drivers to hold a protest today at Yadgir.

 
The Karnataka Chalakara Okkuta district unit planned to hold a protest today at Yadgir
against the new hit-and-run laws. The massive agitation started on January 2nd when drivers and transport unions across the country landed on streets and highways, striking and demonstrating against the new law where the Indian Judicial Code introduced stringent provisions against the accused of the hit-an-run case can face ten years of imprisonment and Rs. 7 lakh fine. The demonstrations and strikes hit the fuel supplies and delayed the transport of goods across the country. However, the government has assured the revision.

BJP to hold mega protest on January 9th.

BJP has planned a mega agitation on January 9th in Hubli to protest against the arrest of self-proclaimed Karsewak Srikant Pujari in a 31-year-old case related to the Ram Temple agitation. It is to be noted that the political strife in Karnataka continues due to this issue, and several prominent BJP leaders were arrested after the call for state-wide agitation.

Assam

Transporters called for a two-day strike in Assam.

The joint forum of all transport unions has called for a 48-hour strike from today, protesting against the new hit-and-run laws. Movement of all commercial vehicles is likely to halt as multiple transport associations, including cabs and auto-rickshaws, fuel tankers, goods carriers, and buses, have joined hands to participate in the agitation.

Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu transport union calls for strike ahead of Pongal on January 9th.

 

The government bus services in Tamil Nadu are likely to be affected as the state transport workers union has called for an indefinite strike across the state ahead of Pongal starting on January 9th. The transport workers are protesting as the second round of talks with the transport authorities failed. The union demanded the revision of the wage agreement, filling up the vacant drivers and conductors vacancies, releasing the pending dearness allowance of the pensioners, and financial support of the state government to all eight transport corporations.

Telangana

The Hyderabad bus strike on January 5th called off.

The TSRTC’s (Telangana State Road Transport Corporation) rental bus owners called off the strike planned for today, January 5th after the meeting with the Managing Director of TSRTC, who assured to resolve their issues by January 10th. The rental bus owners who ply around 2700 buses in the state initially decided to go on strike, citing the revenue loss and increased cost due to the Mahalakshmi scheme.
