General Forecast:
Southwest monsoon further advanced into remaining parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West and East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, and Punjab. Rainfall activity is likely to increase over Northwest India from today with heavy to very heavy rainfall over the plains of northwest India from 28 to 30 June. Fairly widespread to widespread, light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning, very likely over Northwest and east India during next 5 days.
Severe Weather Alerts:
- According to the IMD, isolated, very heavy rainfall is very likely over Konkan, Goa, Coastal and interior Karnataka, Saurashtra, Kerala, and Kutch. The weather department said that rainfall activity is likely to increase over Northwest India from today with heavy to very heavy rainfall over the plains of northwest India during June 28 and 30.
- The IMD has issued an Orange warning (Alert) over Coastal Karnataka, Saurashtra, Konkan, Uttarakhand, West and East Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Delhi, Haryana, East Rajasthan, Bihar, and Assam.
Travel and Supply Chain Impact:
Delhi
- Parts of Delhi-NCR received heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the early hours of Friday and reported 155mm of rain, causing waterlogging and inundated roads.
- The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more showers during the day and for the next two hours.
- Severe waterlogging is reported in areas such as Govindpuri of South Delhi, Noida Sector 95 and 62, ITO, Dhaula Kuan, Minto Road, Moti Bagh, Mehram Nagar underpass, Murga Mandi, Teen Murti Marg, and Golf Course Road in Gurugram.
- Rains have also caused large traffic disruption in the capital region particularly along the waterlogged routes. Routes affected are Anuvrat marg, Ring Road in Dhaula Kuan, Vir Banda Bairagi Marg at Azad market underpass, Aurbindo Marg–AIIMS flyover, Outer Ring Road– Y-Point Saleemgarh and Nigambodh, W-Point Tilak bridge road, Rohtak road–Rajdhani park, Mathura Road–Ashram, Road number 13–Okhla underpass, Akshardham, Jwala Heri Market, and Terminal-1 Road.
- Transport services such as Metro have been impacted by rains. Entry/exit is closed at Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector-25 Metro station. Shuttle service from Delhi Aerocity Metro station to Terminal-1 Airport has been suspended. There are normal services on other lines.
- The weather conditions are expected to cause travel and transport disruption for commuters. There are high chances of vehicle accidents due to waterlogging.
- Due to the collapse of a roof at Terminal-1 at Delhi Airport, all departing flights have been cancelled from the terminal till 2:00 pm. All the arrivals and departure operations of SpiceJet are shifted to Terminal 3 and IndiGo operations have been spread over Terminal 3 and Terminal 2.
- Due to the severe weather conditions, there have been widespread flight disruptions and delays. Around 323 flights have been delayed and 107 flights cancelled with an average delay of 42 mins.
Coastal India
- Due to orange warning in the Coastal areas of Kerala, Konkan, Karnataka, and Goa, fishing activities would be affected.
- Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the sea.
- There is also the possibility of strong winds and rough seas impacting maritime activities.
