General weather alert:

  • On July 30, 2024, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for parts of Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Karnataka, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland 
  • Yellow alert in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal
  • Red alert in Kerala. 

Travel and Supply Chain Impact:

Maharashtra:

    • Traffic on more than thirty roads in Gadchiroli district has come to a standstill due to the opening of dam gates following incessant rains. Nagpur-Gadchiroli has been disconnected from five taluks of South Gadchiroli. Heavy rain has been ongoing in Gadchiroli district for the past ten days, causing rivers and streams to flood. Connectivity was severed when the Pal River bridge went under water, and the bridge over Shivni Nalla on the Gadchiroli-Chamorshi-Allapalli National Highway was also submerged, isolating five talukas from the district headquarters. 
    • Internal roads, state roads, and national highways are under water, and Bhamragarh has been disconnected for four days as the Pearlkota river bridge is submerged.
    • Dhaga-Brahmanwada road in Karanja taluka is closed due to heavy rains in Wardha district. One person was swept away in the flow of Khairi Dam. In Hinganghat taluk, 13 houses and five in Samudrapur taluk have been partially damaged. Heavy rains in Samudrapur, Selu, Karanja, and Hinganghat taluks have increased river water levels, with Vana, Yashoda, Dham, and Wardha rivers overflowing. Kar and Pothra projects have overflowed, leading to the closure of 10 state roads and 53 major district roads. Public Works Department coordinating officers have informed about the closure of 63 roads in total.
    • Several routes in Kolhapur district have also been affected. On State Route 194 at Karveer, roads such as Shahu Naka Kalambe Salokhenagar, Balinge, Shingnapur, Chikhli, and National Highway no. 204 Vadange Nigwe Dumala, and Shiye Top National Highway No. 4 have been closed due to water from the Shingnapur dam. Alternate routes have been initiated via Ambewadi, Chikhli, Shiye Phata National Highway via Shiroli Naka, Kolhapur.
    • The Kolhapur-Gargoti-Gadhinglaj-Naganwadi-Chandgarh-Here Tilari road on State Highway 189 at Chandgarh is closed due to water on the Chandgarh Bridge. Traffic is being diverted via Patne Phata State Highway 180 through Halkarni Phata Date via Chandgarh. Other affected routes include the Bhadgaon bridge on the Kolhapur-Gargoti-Gadhinglaj-Naganwadi-Chandgad-Here Tilari Road and the Haldi village section on the same route at Karveer.
    • Bhudargarh-Kolhapur on Rama 189, Gargoti, Gadhinglaj, Nagananwadi, Chandgad, Here, Tilari Road on Rama 189 at Madilge is closed due to four feet of water with no alternate route available. Traffic is also blocked on State Route 178 at Radhanagari on Devgad-Radhanagari-Murgud-Nipani due to three feet of water near Murgud. The alternative road is via Murgud, Chimgaon through Gargoti and Kolhapur and Nidhori Kagal.
    • Other affected roads include Chandgarh-Hindgaon-Ibrahimpur Chitale-Ajra Road on State Route 201 at Chandgarh and Ibrahimpur Bridge (Ghatprabha River). The road on State Route 193 at Gaganbawda and Panhala is closed due to water on the Kasari river. Traffic has been diverted via alternate routes such as Pohale, Pohalwadi, Bazarbhogaon, and Malkapur.
    • State Route 195 at Shirol, Hatkanangle, and Karveer also face closures due to water on various bridges. The National Highway No. 4 road near Jajal Petrol Pump is closed due to water on the Kuditre, Koge bridge. Traffic is being diverted through Koge Phata, Balinge, Kuditre.
    • On State Route 192 at Hatkanangle, alternate routes are in use due to closures from water on small bridges over the Panchganga river. Other affected areas include Shirol-Prajima 123, Shirol-Prajima 73, and Shirol-Prajima 105.
    • In Chandgarh, State Route 180 and Ajra-Pragima 58 have also been affected by water from the Salgaon barrage. Traffic is being diverted via Sohle, Bachi. The authorities have implemented various alternate routes to manage the traffic disruptions and ensure safety.

Kerala: 

    • On July 30, heavy rain led to significant disruptions in transportation in various areas. Train services from Shornur to Palakkad were temporarily suspended due to a landslide near the rail at Mannanur. Another landslide at Veezhumala caused mountain water to gush in, submerging the road at Anakkapara on the national highway and resulting in a traffic jam.
    • Bus services on the Mangalam-Govindapuram road have been completely suspended due to significant waterlogging near Chittalancheri. Additionally, water entered the railway track in Wadakkanchery, disrupting train traffic.
    • The areas affected by the rainfall include Mannanur, Veezhumala, Anakkapara, and Chittalancheri.
    • The impacted routes are Anakkapara Road, Mangalam-Govindapuram Road, Wadakkanchery Railway route, and Shornur-Palakkad Railway route.
    • Two landslides struck the Wayanad district, inflicting widespread devastation. The incident happened about 2 a.m., with another landslide reported at 4:10 a.m. Vythiri, Vellarimala, and Meppadi are among the impacted localities. Heavy rains continue to damage the area, and the bridge connecting Chooralmala to Mundakai has washed away, making access impossible. 

Himachal Pradesh

    • A yellow alert has been issued for thunderstorms and heavy rain for all districts except Lahaul Spiti, Chamba, Kullu, and Kinnaur.
    • The Leh-Manali road was closed due to debris.
    • A landslide in Panthaghati damaged three vehicles which were buried under it.

Karnataka:

    • Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Belgaum, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, and Shimoga are expected to receive more rain.
    • Heavy rainfall was recorded in these districts last night.
    • Bagalkot and Belgaum are also experiencing heavy rains.
    • A landslide occurred at Charmadi Ghat due to heavy rains, disrupting road traffic.
    • National Highway 66 between Kumta and Karwar remains closed.

Madhya Pradesh:

    • Heavy rainfall in various parts of the Indore-Ujjain division over the last 24 hours has caused flooding in several areas.
    • Indore’s seasonal total rainfall stands at 249.6mm, 79.3mm less than the average for this time of year.
    • Ujjain’s temples near the Kshipra River were waterlogged due to heavy rain.
    • In Shajapur flooding caused water to enter houses and shops.
    • Authorities opened two gates of the Sanjay Sagar Dam in Vidisha in response to the heavy rains.
    • In Betul, five gates of the Satpura Dam and two gates of the ParasDoh Dam were opened to release excess water, necessitating precaution for the residents.
