General Forecast

The monsoon in India continues its active progress, bringing widespread rainfall across various regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that Northern states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, are experiencing light to moderate rain and thunderstorms, with heavy rainfall likely in Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh. Western India, particularly Gujarat and Maharashtra, is under orange alert for severe rainfall, reflecting the monsoon’s vigorous presence. Southern regions, including Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh, are also witnessing isolated heavy rainfall. Eastern states like Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim continue to receive substantial rain. The Northeast, especially Assam and Meghalaya, remains affected by heavy rainfall and flooding. Overall, the monsoon is maintaining its robust activity, significantly influencing weather patterns across the country.

Severe Weather Alerts

  • Konkan & Goa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka, and South Interior Karnataka are forecasted to experience extremely heavy rainfall and have been issued red alerts. A red alert is in effect for the districts of Idukki, Kannur, Kasargod, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Pathanamthitta, indicating extremely heavy rainfall of over 20 cm in 24 hours.
  • Orange alerts have been issued for isolated places in Telangana, specifically in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Suryapet, and Mahabubabad districts. Similar alerts have been extended to other districts, including Jangaon, Siddipet, Medak, and Kamareddy, for today. Ernakulam, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, and Wayanad are also given orange alerts.In Maharashtra, an orange alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts. Additionally, Thane and Pune are under an orange alert due to expected heavy rains.Gujarat is also experiencing significant rainfall, with an orange alert in place for Devbhumi Dwarka, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, and Valsad districts.
  • Several places in Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh and Telangana have been issued yellow alerts with heavy rainfall warnings.

Travel and Supply Chain Impacts

Kerala and Tamil Nadu :

    • The IMD has also warned fishermen to refrain from venturing into the sea, supported by the Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), indicating the likelihood of high waves and storm surges along the Kerala coast. 
    • Heavy rainfall has led District Collectors in Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod, Malappuram, Thrissur, and Ernakulam to declare a holiday for all educational institutions today, July 15. 
    • Significant travel and traffic disruptions are anticipated
    • Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has advised people to avoid standing or parking vehicles under trees due to the risk of uprooting. Residents living in thatched, sheeted, or unsecured houses should relocate to safer buildings as per the authorities’ directions.
    • Amidst the Heavy rainfall, flash floods strike Courtallam. Tourists are advised not to enter the waterbody and to be vigilant.

Mumbai:

    • Heavy monsoon rains in Mumbai caused widespread disruptions, particularly affecting train services and flights. 
    • Several suburban trains, including those on the Central and Harbour lines, faced delays and cancellations due to waterlogging on tracks at various stations such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Dadar.
    • In addition to rail disruptions, flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were also impacted. The airport authority issued advisories for passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
    • Several companies have issued advisories for the passengers.
    • Flood-like situations exist in various parts, with major rivers like Savitri, Gandhari, and Kaal crossing the danger mark.

Bihar and Uttar Pradesh : 

    • The Tutla Bhawani Dham is overflowing, and residents are advised to be vigilant about the situation. Flash floods could happen, resulting in fatalities.
    • Heavy monsoon rains have severely impacted Uttar Pradesh, affecting around 1,500 villages across 22 districts. The flooding has displaced thousands of people and caused significant damage to property and crops. The affected areas include districts along major rivers like the Ganga and Yamuna, which are in spate due to continuous rains and water released from dams in neighbouring states. Districts such as Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, and Prayagraj are among the worst hit.
    • Around 30662 cusecs of water was discharged from the Haridwar Barrage, causing floods in the fields in Khadar.
    • The Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has issued advisories and deployed rescue teams to aid affected residents. In addition to the loss of property, rain-related incidents have resulted in the deaths of five individuals over the past 24 hours. Authorities have set up relief camps and are distributing essential supplies to those displaced by the floods.

Sikkim:

  • Vehicle movement on National Highway 10 (NH10), connecting West Bengal with Sikkim, had been terminated due to restoration work after continuous rainfall and landslides.

Delhi

  • After heavy rains, Delhi has been experiencing waterlogging in several areas. Pusa Road is flooded with rainwater and facing traffic disruptions.
